Gun nerd here: I love your interpretation of the Quad-Barrel Shotgun, despite it’s mechanical improbability, although I do think the original sprite intended to be a break-action shotgun, since there is a visible line in the middle of the breach. Still great video though! You created my favorite Venus Magnum interpretation ever, after all!
Yeah I realized afterwords I went a little too crazy afterwords going down a rabbit hole of making that weird corner loading work lol. Break action would have been much more simple and easier ha
@@NARKdesign As someone who’s also very into guns I really liked what you ended up with. Because the shells are exposed, it leads me to believe that the shotgun has some kind of shell storage, to get multiple quad barrel shots before reloading. I don’t think there’s enough room in there for it to be plausible, but it’s a cool concept nonetheless.
The glow-y barrel on the Vortex Beater is definitely not supposed to be in the "middle" of the gun, it's supposed to be visible from the top. In pixel art color theory, having darker blue pixels surrounding neon blue indicates that it's still part of the same piece, if that makes sense. So the dark blue pixels on top of the neon blue don't represent a metal frame, but the edge of the glass. If you look up other interpretations of a a 3D Vortex Blaster, you'll see what I mean. Also, when firing, there's an animation showing energy traveling through the glass from the back of the gun to the front, which shows light traveling through the dark blue pixels as well, confirming it's part of the glass casing.
This is a really fun idea and process but please consider tweaking your height maps when you're rendering and make sure that your materials are in scale with each other. Some of these textures are reading really huge in comparison to others and your details could be more fine in comparison to affecting entire areas
I fully agree, even if the UVs are all unfolded, the scale of some materials is pretty different than expected so it feels rougher than I expected. (The final gun in particular, I would've been curious to see how the texture would look scaled down so it repeats more and looks like a weathered pattern rather than a rockier and larger image)
I absolutely love the last one’s 3D model but I’m no a big fan of the hand hammered metal. I think it’s because of the uniformity of the texture instead of random surface imperfections and deformations.
I agree. To me, the texturing was a bit odd on the metal parts. As you said, could be a bit more "randomized" damage. Since it does drop from Plantera, it probably was laying around in there somewhere, which would probably cause some cosmetic damage over time. Scratch marks from the teeth... And such. Can't think of more things right now. And just as a little added thing, I feel like the metal and handle could be a little darker in color. Make the glowing green pop more. All in all, I still really like it!
10:07 At first, I was thinking "This shotgun feels more like a cartoonish handgun" but that's when it clicked. This would straight up be a shotgun Hellboy would use! Like in every sense of it, he'd be your guy to sling it around. ^^ 16:27 For what it is, I think you did pretty good. I wouldn't say you are too hard on yourself though, I can see it is just a little too simple. But, that said, you did do pretty good! Also, the weird energy inside all the glowy parts feel oddly fluid based but also not. Trips my brain up looking at it. XD 22:10 Honesty before anything. I feel the texture you picked for the major metal parts doesn't sit well. Annnd that's it. The rest honestly is fantastic, and when it was untextured it looked good too. You're proud of this? You should be! This one was damn good, and you gave enough detail to make it move should you ever need to animate it.
As a Blender user, this was fascinatingly weird to watch as this program has a pretty different workflow to how I've made things in the past. Great explanation over the process and I love the end results! While there's definitely room for improvement, I think that your video editing keeps my attention and I'm eager to see your growth :)
Dude, as both a hobby game dev and a diehard gun nut, this is awesome to see. I've actually always kind of wanted to make a little Terraria fan game where you could fight Terraria bosses in full 3D VR, and this reminded me I still want to do that! Awesome work.
"hello. welcome to the channel. subscribe please?" well you drive a hard bargain. i love Terraria and this is definitely something new for me. looking forward to whatever else you get up to :)
I almost chose the Gatlingator over the Quad Barreled Shotgun haha. I love reading these comments suggesting the other guns because if time allowed for a single video I would have done them all (Except the mini shark…)
i know zero about this kind of stuff and wouldn't even have though to look for any videos relating to 3d modeling, but this is some cool stuff to see, i really like how you went through your processes and described things
Wow! Hi all! This really blew up fast for my first long form video on my channel! I’ve got weekly uploads planned for more cool weapon modeling so please subscribe genuinely! Didn’t think this video would go anywhere so I appreciate all the support for my work!!! Thank you guys!! -NARK
I'm curious, did you make the Vortex Beater's glowy stuff purple because you wanted it to be, or did you not see it as a more greenish blue? Maybe I just see it differently.
Eh the honest answer is I was just messing around with shaders and stuff and kinda liked the vibe. Looking back I should have changed the secondary color from purple to that teal/green
What a killer first video my man. I enjoyed hearing about how you interpreted certain details. I think my fav was the Quad Barrel Shotgun, but they all turned out really good. If you're looking to do more Terraria, some swords or tools could be cool, unless you're mainly focusing on firearms; that would be a-OK with me, I love fantasy firearms! I look forward to what you make next!
very professional video for your first venture, its obvious you've spend a lot of time on it and was an engaging watch, sure the models have some issues but lets not focus on those instead I'll highlight the points I think you did best in each; the first one really shows you're experienced with ''modelling traditional firearms'' especially when it comes to the texturing and greebling. the second one really looks like a sci-fi rifle if you hide the grip, it instantly gives me aliens pulse rifle vibes whist having its own visual identity. the third one is by far the best one in terms of the actual model and visual interest. all 3 of them would look amazing and fit right into say a 3d re-imagining of terraria so I'd say mission accomplished p.s. I know I said I was not going to focus on the negatives but one piece of feedback I have to share is that all 3 look to have major UV stretching issues which could quite easily have been fixed in blender
not so recently i begun to like studying guns in general. and im so glad you mixed what you like in one video while taking great attention to detail and functionality lol. also this kinda shows that, however eccentric Terraria designs may be, they still make a lot of sense in core, thats why i like the ranger class. fantastic stuff!
I think it might also be worthwhile to use how the weapons function in game as an additional reference. For example how the vortex beater fires both bullets and rockets. I always presumed the glowing bit at the grip was an under barrel launcher and that's why it's such a chunky weapon.
Sick work, dude! This video was super entertaining and you're seriously skilled! I don't have a specific request but it'd be sick to see you model any of the weapons from Space Station 14 (also a pixel artstyle game)
This is pretty cool! I've personally tried my hand at modeling some of Terraria's swords, though they weren't quite as detailed as these. My one slight disappointment is that you chose such realistic materials, and didn't really try to color match them to the original pixel art, so it just clashes with the proportions of the guns themselves. I think it could've been a lot better if you had taken the colors straight from the original and edited the materials based off that. Maybe an improvement for next time? Either way, it's a cool idea, and the models themselves look sick!
For the Quad barrel shortguns loading mechanism: I think that (in spite of how nifty the idea is) if you had abandoned the diagonal loading method and done a horizontal loading mechanism on either side you could've avoided the logical issue of having the bottom two shells just fall out.
As a gun nerd and sci-fi nerd myself- the Vortex Beater is completely fine. No need for buttons or wires or stuff unless you're trying to make starfield-esque weapons which are, way too complex. Though the cable instead of a stock is a bit of an odd choice imo.
"I cut out the sides of the revolver chambers" oh you want the ammunition's casings to rupture and explode out of the sides of the gun instead of firing straight forward, i see
The shotgun looks like it came straight out of some Serious Sam title, it even reminds of the ridiculous wheel-gun shotgun from second game, but more put together.
I feel like the Vortex Beater has too much purple, and the entire barrel was supposed to be made of a kind of a space gemstone material, exposed on the top, and have some Luminite metal parts surrounding it only on the bottom. You can also clearly see the trigger made out of it as well. Alternatively, I can see the vortexian material as a sort of outer shell around the barrel, but definitely not whatever you came up with. I don't see your vision on it. The other guns turned out great though! I'm absolutely in love with your rendition of the Venus Magnum, the only thing I'd change is that it very clearly looks like there is a trigger guard on the original sprite. I think the original version was supposed to look quite different, but your take on it is amazing. And although the Quad Barrel is quite bland, I feel like it fits really well with the early game vibe.
You should definitely make these files available! I know I’d print the quad barrel. I love printing various weapons from different media. Can’t wait for the next installment!
The vortex beater looks like the thing at the back might be a collapsible stock. I mean, it comes out of the back of the gun, behind the pistol-grip, and it forms almost a direct right-angle.
For the shotty, you could also have made it with a massive drum, like a revolver. Either with a pair of "reloads" making it have 8 ammo or simply work as a magazine of 4 shots. End is kinda cute and derpy. With the beater the handle shoul've stayed banana shaped like the sprite art. It's part of the weapons character. Also the pipe makes sense but deviates from the original design too much. The purple innnards also look weird. I get why you're super happy with the venus magnum, turned out cool. However the hammered look seem out of place and looks really odd when the hammer and the rest of the gun have completely different texture scale. Also i think you should've added the pronounced trigger guard of the original, i think it would give it more pezaz. Looks very much like a revolver, and not a massive rifle like in game tho... funny. I'd say the shotty is most true to pixelart. But the venus is cool and has the most detail. Beater honestly looks "Eh" at best.
In my opinion, futuristic weapons will always be based on modern weapons, just like how modern ones are based on the past models. Don't get me wrong, the 3D model are really nice, but a few parts ticked me off, such as the handle on the Vortex Beater or the loading mechanic of the Quad-Barreled Shotgun. For the Vortex Beater, maybe you could model the grip base on a modern rifle grip. As for the Quad Shotgun, what you have there is an overcomplicated design that doesn't offer much in regard for the ease of use compared with a break-action shotgun design. You nailed The Venus Magnum pretty well, maybe a longer grip would be nicer but I don't really have anything else to say. Again, this is just my opinion as someone who love looking at guns.
Thank you!!! All the support has been so uplifting I’ve been doing weapon modeling for so long and on a whim decided to make some content for it. So glad you and others are enjoying it! I’ve got weekly uploads planned so stay tuned :)
i always imagined the back of the vortex beater to be like a stock or whatever, just squished down to fit in the sprite. i also saw the venus magnum having a thinner barrel. ofc idk anything at all about guns lol. i think the material work could be improved, but the models are great! would be awesone to see these in a kinda low poly style to allow for some neat ps1/ps2 style textures similar to the guns in ultrakill
This is great work and a really smart way to exercise your skills of 3D modelling. but just a small criticism, the handles/grips on the weapons all looked just plain wrong and extremely uncomfortable if you were to ever hold them. i would say do some studies on things similar to what your doing in the real world but im just a guy on the internet. Keep going and keep improving 👍
for quadbarrel, i think it act like the typical double barrel, but 4 times the barrel. and for the vortex beater, the back of the grip i think some kind of fold-able stock, that you can shortened and lengthened to your need. also the front grip of the rufle is i think actually a under-barrel launcher, cuz sometimes you can shoot rockets from the gun
Love terraria, just watched the whole video without even questioning the quality of the vid. I assumed you had a big following so I think you’re doing great so far you got a subscriber out of me. You should definitely do more terraria stuff but check out enter the Gungeon and deep rock galactic!!!
Me personally, I think the Quad-Barrel shotgun would have been a break-action, or loaded like a revolver, which would have made for some cool mechanical detailing.
I think the back part of the vortex beater is a foldable stock and the lower part thats attached to the cannon of the venus magnum is a laser pointer (that is probably green colored)
Also love to see more terraria models (don’t make the mini shark) and if you are up to it maybe make some of the other types of weapons from games I love your talent and I’m excited to see this channel grow ❤
I believe that the Blue liquid- like subtance in the Vortex weapon acts like some kind off coolant and also a type of "booster" (like a Sci-fi coilgun)
These all look amazing The only criticism I have is the main grip on each of them are a bit off. Quad shot's grip is too short and too thick, the vortex beater's doesn't have quite enough curve The magnum's grip is also a little too thick and could be a tad longer. Other than the issues with the grips, everything else is perfect
please do some of the swords! honestly learned a lot more than from other tutorials. I got tricked into watching a tutorial and I am not regretting it.
hey just some feedback from someone who does 3d modelling. first of all blender isn't made to just texture in i respect your chose to model in a different software but atleast look for something like substance painter 3d to texture it's going to be a lot better, second of all the way u textured the guns isn't really great at some spots u have heavy rust and wear whilst other parts look brand new try to even this out thru your textures, also i recommend u look into localization when texturing. anyway keep up the good work and i hope u improve after some time ^^
i gotta say, by just a 2D sprite you were rlly creative, i loved how yu brainstormed to make all these models look unique, and it rlly looks unique!!!! loved ur content, excellent work psst... could you please try to model one of my favourite calamity terraria guns next time you do a terraria video related? calamity is a terraria mod and i think you know that already, the gun is called Conference Call
All three look amazing, tho imo the quad one looks best, probably because of the whole vintage look, not, not sure Regarding the third one, the metal looks a bit weird with all the wrinkly bits, if it were smooth it might have won nr1 spot, the green parts tho, chefs kiss
Very cool, but the most weak part in this chain is final materials, i recently learned Substance Painter, it is quite simple and makes for a great visual results. Got it right in the first day. Your models could be so much expressive Great work nonetheless ❤
Underrated as hell, really enjoyed this
Thanks a ton :) got another video coming out in a week, and have some shorts already on my channel with more to come this week if your interested!

Interesting take on the quad shotgun. I always imagined it as a quad-barrel minigun style firing system.
I think the back part of the vortex beater is a foldable stock and the lower part thats attached to the cannon of the venus magnum is a laser pointer (that is probably green colored)
I'd love to see a breakdown of your workflow moving from plasticity to blender, and how you unwrap/apply textures to the model you imported
Someone needs to animate these and make a gun game with them
you're underrated as hell, how do you only have 477 subs???
Amazing video, if you ever do terraria weapons again some neat options to do would probably be the onyx blaster or the gatligator
Also love to see more terraria models (don’t make the mini shark) and if you are up to it maybe make some of the other types of weapons from games I love your talent and I’m excited to see this channel grow ❤
I believe that the Blue liquid- like subtance in the Vortex weapon acts like some kind off coolant and also a type of "booster" (like a Sci-fi coilgun)
this is insane!! you're way underrated man
Thanks!! Gonna do new videos every week so definitely subscribe if you don’t want miss more of my vids :)
This is so cool!
Thank you!!! More content coming soon :)
These all look amazing
The only criticism I have is the main grip on each of them are a bit off.
Quad shot's grip is too short and too thick, the vortex beater's doesn't have quite enough curve
The magnum's grip is also a little too thick and could be a tad longer.
Other than the issues with the grips, everything else is perfect
Now you gotta print it
really frickn cool man
please do some of the swords! honestly learned a lot more than from other tutorials. I got tricked into watching a tutorial and I am not regretting it.
65 subscribers is CRIMINAL
Hahaha I appreciate it friend, and plan to grow that number much much higher. Got new videos every week and shorts released too!!
Holy fucking shit has at 400 just a few hours later
Hey it’s like 10x more now
Video idea: take the 3D model and print it and make it work like actually shoot like a real gun
Probably too expensive for most people to make.
Atf knocking at his door
Ok if the cartridges are exposed to the outside of the chambers, I am morbidly curious about the effectiveness of this gun irl
Yeah the minishark might be hard to make... but what about the megashark????
hey just some feedback from someone who does 3d modelling. first of all blender isn't made to just texture in i respect your chose to model in a different software but atleast look for something like substance painter 3d to texture it's going to be a lot better, second of all the way u textured the guns isn't really great at some spots u have heavy rust and wear whilst other parts look brand new try to even this out thru your textures, also i recommend u look into localization when texturing. anyway keep up the good work and i hope u improve after some time ^^
Very well done!
Thank you so much!
Sick and deserving of my sub.
oh man this is good stuff
these are so cool. slightly sad that the star cannon wasnt on the list tho
Seeing them modeled in 3d makes them look like pixel gun weapons or even doom weapons.
Bro's making me wanna do the magic stuff but in a ps2 format.
Sick ass vid btw dude, would love to see more 🦈🌙
The first design was very tf2, and the other two were very ultrakill. Love the designs!
i gotta say, by just a 2D sprite you were rlly creative, i loved how yu brainstormed to make all these models look unique, and it rlly looks unique!!!!
loved ur content, excellent work
psst... could you please try to model one of my favourite calamity terraria guns next time you do a terraria video related? calamity is a terraria mod and i think you know that already, the gun is called Conference Call
🤔 Funilly enough I have two videos planned on my road-map and both of them include modeling a “Conference Call” 👀 😉
Conference Call is actually from borderlands 2 which is 3d
oh darn i didnt knew that, thats cool conference call is from borderlands, if i play it someday ill sure only use that baby...
OOOOOOO THATS GONNA BE AWESOME :DDDDDD
@ You would need to get it first, legendaries are not easy to find in that game
All three look amazing, tho imo the quad one looks best, probably because of the whole vintage look, not, not sure
Regarding the third one, the metal looks a bit weird with all the wrinkly bits, if it were smooth it might have won nr1 spot, the green parts tho, chefs kiss
Appreciate that a lot! Yeah I’m hearing from a few people the hammered metal may have been better as a standard metal material. Thanks!! :)
Didn’t know I got RUclips plus holy shit, bro is cooking
ridiculously cool
Right back at ya! Haha seriously tho thank you :) got more videos coming out every week stay tuned
Very cool, but the most weak part in this chain is final materials, i recently learned Substance Painter, it is quite simple and makes for a great visual results. Got it right in the first day. Your models could be so much expressive
Great work nonetheless ❤
5:28
Lmao, crazy how similar this looks to the scattergun from TF2
the quadbarrel shotgun you could have just made the bareel rotating, i have seen a shot that can do that irl
Thats so sick
Immediate sub, fellow gun modeler
Much appreciated :)
You definitely need to make the Laser Machine Gun even if it's a mage weapon
ur voice sounds like Tom from Star vs the Forces of Evil lol, but like older? anyway rly cool video!!
