The game is about Child Neglect and Child Abuse.
The Mom (Zoey) and The Dad (Justin) were a happy couple. They wanted a baby and so David (The Protagonist) was born! Justin was a workaholic and shut himself away from everything and everyone. Zoey felt unwanted and so she drank her problems away, soon becoming an alcoholic. One day, Justin decided enough was enough and confronted Zoey about her drinking problem. She most likely lashed out at him because she was drunk and Justin got physical with her. David was mostly a couple months old to a year old. Zoey packed her things and took David with her.
The game is set in the 1990's, It's David's birthday. The reason why his vision goes wacky and warpy is because of his trauma. During the first part of the game, Zoey went to the door and it was Justin; trying to give David a present. Zoey didn't want him there and so they argued for a while until she gave him a firm "NO" and shut the door. The gift was from David's dad. During the game, David and Teddy became best friends and went through adventures. The Adventures were an escapism for his trauma. Teddy sounding like David's father was because Teddy was made by Justin. David most likely saw his dad as a safe space and his imagination took Teddy and his father together as one.
The monsters David sees is his whenever she becomes drunk. She would hit and threaten the poor child. In the end of the game, Justin took custody of him and he was finally safe.
